Earlier in June, the Society launched a structured development programme designed to support people along the way to becoming a Chartered Geographer.

The Chartered Geographer scheme was established in 2002 and remains the only internationally recognised accreditation for geography professionals. Since its launch, over 1,200 individuals have been awarded Chartered Geographer status. The new scheme, Professional Pathway to Chartered Geographer, is specifically designed to support early-career professionals on their journey toward achieving this prestigious accreditation.

Through a structured and tailored programme, early-career geography professionals will be offered support in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), a range of introductory and advanced webinars, opportunities to join a professional network, one-to-one mentorship, advice for specific career interests, and networking opportunities.

The Society is also offering organisations and companies the opportunity to support their staff on the pathway and register as a Professional Pathway to Chartered Geographer Employer. The scheme, which is free of charge for employers, allows employers to embed the programme into their early-career support, showcasing their commitment to staff development, all while flying the flag for professional geographical careers!
