Today marked one of the busiest days in the year for our Research Groups, with four groups hosting events around the UK and further afield.

The first event kicked off in the early hours of Thursday with an annual online symposium held by the Digital Geographies Research Group (DGRG), on the theme Global digital geographies. To accommodate the global community of digital geographers, the symposium is being held across multiple time zones. Featuring over 44 papers, the programme continues tomorrow, beginning in East Africa and Middle Eastern time (GMT+3).

Later in the morning, in the North of England, two more events took place. The Geographies of Children, Youth and Families Research Group supported a symposium on the geographies of intergenerational mobilities, held at Manchester Metropolitan University, while the Political Geography Research Group’s biennial workshop was held at Newcastle University, with another day of activity to follow, exploring the theme Practicing political geography: risk, responsibility, reciprocity.

Finally, our Food Geographies Research Group away day commences this evening in Bristol. This will be followed by a day of workshops on creativity in food geographies and is intended to spark ideas and collaborations in advance of this year’s Annual International Conference.

Our Research Groups bring together academics working in similar areas of geography, to share their research, host events and build a community. Find out more and look out for details of their upcoming AGMs soon.
