Regions Committee

Regional committees

We have nine regional branches across England, Northern Ireland and Wales, which are managed by groups of local volunteers. We also have international branches based in Hong Kong and Singapore, developed by local Fellows.

Our regional committees organise a large range of popular lectures, debates and field trips outside London, making an important contribution to the Society’s reach and role as a national organisation. Most events are open to both Society members and the general public, and you do not have to live locally to attend.

The regional committees exist to:

  • Share geographical knowledge through public events, such as talks and field visits.

  • Deliver a programme of events that meets the needs and interests of their local communities, including Fellows, members and members of the public.

  • Provide Fellows and members based outside of London with the opportunity to meet.

  • Showcase the geography and geographers based in their region.

Regions Committee

Two representatives from each regional committee attend the bi-annual Regions Committee meeting, which is chaired by the Regions Representative on Council. The Regions Committee takes place in April and November, and reports to Council each June.

At the Regions Committee meetings, the representatives share best practice, experiences and information about successful events and speakers.
