Become a Professional Ambassador
Use your expertise to bring geography to life for secondary school and university students.
Teachers can find out more information on Professional Ambassador for schools.
Why be an Ambassador?
As well as supporting the next generation of geographers, professional outreach can be a fulfilling experience and is recognised by many employers and professional accreditations, including Chartered Geographer, as a form of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Many schools use the Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Careers Guidance as a framework to ensure quality careers provision. As an Ambassador you would be providing support to schools that would help them to meet benchmark five - ‘encounters with employers and employees’ - as well as inspiring young people about future careers with geography.
Support from the Society
Our guide for Professional Ambassadors provides ideas for finding opportunities for outreach and resources to support you in this work.
Sign up to become a Professional Ambassador
Our Professional Ambassadors database matches professionals with schools. If you are interested in being a Professional Ambassador, or would like to know more, please sign up, providing information about what sort of school outreach experiences you would be able to support, your expertise, and locations you could visit or your interest in support online.
The database is available for schools to search, based on location or topic. Schools will be expected to contact you directly for an Ambassador activity using the information provided (usually a LinkedIn account).
Once a school has been in contact, it will be up to you and the school to agree how to proceed and to arrange the visit.
We do ask you to let us know when you have completed an activity by filling in our Professional Ambassador feedback form, so we can understand what activities are being undertaken and how they went.
