The Broadland Futures Initiative (BFI) is a partnership project aiming to produce a 100-year flood risk management strategy for the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads and adjacent areas.
With over 200km of tidal rivers present and 60% of the land already at or below sea level, Broadland is particularly vulnerable to the risk from rising sea levels and increased winter river flows arising from climate change.
As well as being the home and workplace for many people and businesses, much of Broadland is also the designated equivalent to a National Park reflecting its national and at times international importance for recreation, landscape, and nature conservation.
Peter will explain the approach being taken to develop a strategy, aimed at improving the resilience of people, places, and the environment to flooding, as we adapt to climate change, while also reflecting the wide range of interests and uncertainty about the future.
About the speaker
Peter Doktor is a Senior Project Manager overseeing the technical work of the Broadland Futures Initiative. He has been with the Environment Agency for 25 years and before then with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.
