The remote medical responder course is for those undertaking expeditions to parts of the world where medical help is not readily available. Organised by Endeavour Medical Training in association with the Society.

It consists of two modules:

Level 1: a two-day advanced first aid course) on 27-28 September 2024.

The Remote Medical Responder Level 1 course is designed to meet international requirements of Wilderness First Responders. The curriculum is designed and delivered by senior expedition medical doctors with decades of experience, and who co-authored the Faculty of Prehospital Care Updated Guidance on Medical Provision for Wilderness Medicine and The Oxford Handbook of Wilderness and Expedition Medicine.

This course is aimed at those travelling to remote locations where timely access to prehospital and definitive care is not available. It therefore offers a different syllabus to ‘First Responder’ courses which have a UK focus. This course goes above the standard 16-hour first aid courses, and we request you have completed first aid courses before enrolling as a Remote Medical Responder.

Level 2: a four-day covering Invasive techniques and advanced trauma 27-30 September 2024.

The RMR Level 2 course enhances the knowledge and skills gained from the Level 1 course and delivers training in advanced techniques for overseas use including IM injections, wound stapling and closure and subcutaneous fluids. You will work through scenarios in multiple casualty triage, advanced trauma management, communication with prehospital services and how to practically manage complex evacuations. You will learn theory and techniques in advanced pain management including the use of controlled drugs and how to put together a bespoke medical kit for specific expeditions.
