Black Beck Wood is a notable example of Atlantic Rainforest, an increasingly rare and threatened habitat in the UK characterised by high rainfall, humidity and mild temperatures.
The wood supports a unique and complex biodiversity, with rare mosses, lichens, ferns, moths and ancient trees, and is a special focus for conservation efforts. It also has a rich and fascinating cultural history
About the leader
Our guide will be Edward Mills, a woodland manager and forester with a keen interest in using practical conservation and restoration methods to improve the biodiversity value of this special woodland in the South Lakes.
