A local update from Nina Anuar from the Gunung Mulu National Park, through 13 years of service under three respective Park Managers, witnessing change, challenges and growth.

The presentation takes us from the pre-World Heritage era through major challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, unprecedented floods, fatal tragedies and operational changes, to where Mulu stands today as a unique tourism product and World Heritage destination.

It also highlights Mulu’s accommodation, experiences, community engagements, marketing efforts, visitor trends and achievements, while looking ahead at future opportunities and developments that will be paramount in shaping Mulu in the years to come.

The Park was the location of the 15-month geographical survey of the park by the Royal Geographical Society and the Sarawak Forestry in 1977/78 led by Mr Robin Hanbury-Tenison and the late Dr Paul Chai. Robin will say a few words of welcome at the start of the event.
