The city is threatened by climatic, ecological, and social emergencies. This requires a radical shift in our use of cars and fossil fuels. Such changes can lead to more ecologically sound urban areas, but they also demand a transition away from government dominated by party-political hierarchies toward more participatory and consultative forms of governance.
