11.30am - Eugene Rae (Royal Geographical Society):

  • Join the Royal Geographical Society’s Principal Librarian for a private tour of the Society’s Collections relating to Ernest Shackleton’s expeditions from Discovery to Quest. On display will be some of Shackleton’s personal effects, artefacts from his expeditions along with archival documents and photography including several of the original glass plate negatives exposed by Frank Hurley on the Endurance expedition.
  • While the tour of the Society's collection is in progress there will be a display of books on Shackleton and polar exploration in the map room with authors available to sign and discuss their work.  All purchases will be stamped with a picture of Shackleton and the words: 

12.30pm - Lunch – delegates are requested to be back in time for the group photo 

1.50pm - Group photograph outside the Society beneath the statue of Shackleton (if weather is bad, it will be moved to Sunday)

5.00pm - Eugene Rae (Royal Geographic Society)

  • There will be a second opportunity to join Eugene for a private tour of the Royal Geographical Society’s collection relating to Shackleton.

Making a booking

There are three individual events available to book. Please note you do not need to book for Friday as this comes as part of the price for Saturday and/or Sunday.

Here are instructions on how to pay for all three events together:

  1. Select ‘book now’ on one of the events.
  2. Fill in the booking details.
  3. Select ‘next’ and you will arrive at your cart.
  4. Go back to ‘Events’ (top right-hand tab) or follow this link: The Shackleton 150 convention and gala dinner - RGS to book the other conference day and gala dinner if you wish. Your cart will be saved while you do this.
  5. Once you have added all the events that you require to your cart, you can ‘proceed to checkout’ and pay.
