Carina de Araujo is a Brazilian PhD student in Plant Biology at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), currently undertaking a nine-month research internship at Uppsala University, Sweden.
Her research investigates the ecological wood anatomy of tree species occurring in Amazonian floodplain forests, with a focus on understanding how anatomical and functional variations in the xylem reflect adaptations to flooding and drought conditions.
This work, coordinated by Julia Tavares, aims to advance the understanding of structural strategies associated with water-stress resistance in tropical floodable environments, and is part of the National Geographic Society and Rolex Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition.
