From a young age, Matt developed a passion for the outdoors and for sharing that passion with others. A keen triathlete, climber and mountaineer, road and mountain cyclist, and paddler, he holds a firm belief in using the outdoors as a vehicle for personal change and development.
Matt has worked in the outdoor sector since the late 1990s, initially while studying at university, and has since worked throughout the UK and overseas as both an Expedition Leader and Youth Development Facilitator. His work and travels have taken him across South East Asia, Central-East and North Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Canadian Rockies.
Alongside his outdoor career, Matt is a fully qualified teacher with experience across a range of settings, including inner-London comprehensives, independent boarding schools and specialist SEBD provision.
He has taught Geography and Humanities across all key stages, and held roles including Learning & Inclusion Co-ordinator, DofE Manager and Head of Co-Curricular Activities, through which he planned and led a broad range of fieldwork, residentials and off-site adventures.
Matt is a qualified Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician and during COVID served as a Volunteer Community First Responder with South Central Ambulance Service.
He is now the Director & Lead Facilitator of Different Perspective Training Ltd., a bespoke training and consultancy company delivering pragmatic first aid and outdoor safety training, including the Society's Off-Site Safety Management course, to schools, universities and businesses throughout the UK.
