Overview
Outlook Expeditions offer immersive learning experiences that provide young people with opportunities to grow in character, build resilience, and feel empowered to take responsibility for their own lives.
Through authentic overseas expeditions, Outlook engages young people in rich, challenging experiences that inspire confidence, independence, and personal growth.
Mission and approach
Outlook Expeditions exist to deliver inspirational, immersive learning experiences beyond the classroom that accelerate core skills development in young people. Their approach empowers teams to grow and learn through challenge, developing character, resilience, and wellbeing along the way.
At the heart of Outlook’s mission is the belief in ‘life-readiness’—instilling the idea that everyone can be a leader. Outlook encourages young people to travel responsibly and become active global citizens, developing a deeper awareness of the world and their place within it.
The organisation is committed to creating long-lasting, transformational benefits not only for participants, but also for the communities they visit and the planet. Put simply, Outlook exists to help young people get ready for life.
Outlook believes that what they do and how they do it are of equal importance. They practice what they preach, demonstrating the character and qualities they aim to instill in young people through the way they operate as an organisation.
Values: the ‘Outlook Way’
Outlook’s core values guide how they work together internally and how they build relationships with customers and partners. These values are embedded throughout the organisation’s culture and are known collectively as the ‘Outlook Way’.
Outlook promotes:
- A positive growth mindset
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Innovation and finding new ways forward
- Kindness and respect
What they do
The Outlook journey is a two-phase programme that begins long before departure. The UK Leadership Development Phase is unique to Outlook and is designed to prepare students not only for their overseas expedition, but for the next stage of their lives and beyond. This phase focuses on developing character, building resilience, and improving wellbeing, essential tools for tackling life’s challenges effectively.
The overseas element of the Outlook Programme helps students understand the world around them and their role within it. Through service-learning opportunities, students work in partnership with local community and environmental initiatives, gaining first-hand insight into some of the world’s most pressing global issues. This new perspective inspires students to take an active role in creating a more equal, fair, and sustainable planet.
Outlook also offers ‘Explore’ trips, which are expertly curated to deliver in-depth cultural learning experiences. These journeys take young people to incredible destinations, where they learn about different cultures and the global challenges facing communities and environments. Students lead their expedition from the outset, finalising their itinerary by choosing the project they wish to support, the level of challenge, and opportunities for rest and recreation.
Expedition and participation opportunities
Each Outlook expedition offers varying levels of adventure and physical challenge. Trekking off the beaten track provides an ideal environment for developing leadership skills, teamwork, and resilience. Some teams aim to summit peaks, while others trek through jungle or desert terrain. Along the way, participants may meet local communities in remote villages or encounter unique wildlife in its natural habitat.
In addition to full expeditions, Outlook’s Explore trips offer an alternative way to experience adventure and cultural learning. These trips provide access to many of the same inspiring destinations but without the extended lead-up programme. Itineraries are fixed, with accommodation, in-country transport, and catering fully pre-arranged.
Explore trips are ideal for schools seeking a high-impact adventure with less preparation and a shorter timeframe. They are also well suited to slightly younger year groups who wish to focus their learning on specific subjects and cultural experiences. While full expeditions are often planned up to 18 months in advance, Explore trips are typically booked within 12 months of travel.
