Teacher grants

Grants to support school fieldwork and expeditions, and innovation in teaching geography at secondary and higher education level.

The Society has a rich and diverse grants programme that includes support for school fieldwork and the creating of curriculum-led teaching resources linked to research, fieldwork and expeditions. Grants can assist with collaboration between schools and higher education and provide teachers with the opportunity to have their resources published and used by the wider community.

  • The Innovative Geography Teaching Grants provide up to £1000 for geography teachers at secondary level for the development of imaginative and creative educational resources, with a university collaborator.
  • The Ray Y Gildea Jr Award supports innovation in teaching and learning in higher and secondary education. Grants of up to £1,000 are awarded annually.
  • The Frederick Soddy Schools Award encourages field studies in schools by providing financial support for primary and secondary school fieldwork.
