Alex is a nature journaling educator, artist, and “nature connection and creativity influencer” from East Devon, UK. Alex started nature journaling in 2016, and believes that long-term nature journaling has changed his life and is convinced that it has the power to do great good, especially in the UK, which has a severe nature connection deficit.

Alex’s interest in nature, art, and writing began when he was a child. He wrote and illustrated his own stories throughout his formative years. After a failed attempt at an illustration degree at art school, he changed direction to the natural sciences and attained a degree in environmental science followed by a PhD in soil science.

Alex’s mission now is to promote the wider uptake of nature journaling in the UK. Alex aspires to do this by partnering with conservation and education organisations, producing a great range of materials to both teach nature journaling end empower others to teach nature journaling.

As well as his aesthetic nature journals, Alex also creates original artwork that is informed by his nature journaling and time spent outdoors. He shares his art and nature journaling through a range of different routes such as his YouTube channel and Patreon, and online and in-person talks and demonstrations.

Alex is committed to sharing the mindful process of nature journaling to help combat the modern disconnect with nature and help people find joy in the small details of nature close to home.
