Georgie is an early career marine biologist and ecotoxicologist, with a particular interest in anthropogenic pollutants such as plastic, and their impacts on threatened marine ecosystems. She works as part of a large international GCRF funded project Pacific Plastic: Science to Solution which investigates the sources, impacts and solutions of plastic pollution in the eastern Pacific. Within this project, her PhD research focuses on the development of a rapid assessment toolkit to identify and quantify pollutants, such as plastic, pesticides and oil, in the marine environment of the Galapagos Archipelago.

Other research includes an investigation into the role that mangrove systems play as plastic pollution sinks in the Galapagos and mainland Ecuador. Previous research from her Masters explored microplastic uptake in anthozoans (anemones and coral), and the environmental and physical factors that alter uptake.
