Nigel has had a career directing interdisciplinary research and learning programmes in Africa, the Middle East and Asia to support conservation and sustainable development priorities.

He was Deputy Director of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), responsible for developing and managing 11 major field programmes. This included the Oman Wahiba Sands Programme in 1986/87 and the Jordan Badia Research and Development Programme. In 2005 Nigel joined Earthwatch as its Executive Director, heading its European ‘citizen science’ programmes and its international programmes in Africa, India and the Middle east. This included the HSBC Climate Partnership and working with the Oman Government to establish their National Field Research Centre for Environmental Conservation.

He is now an advisor working on research and conservation projects in Oman, Kenya and the Indian Ocean.
