
Chartered Geographer (AF) eligibility and application
Application guidance and help for those applying for CGeog AF.
This post nominal has been developed in conjunction with the Government Geography Profession, to recognise the set of skills and specialisms required within the Governments Analysis Function.
Eligibility
In addition to the Chartered Geographer eligibility criteria the following additional criteria are in place.
You must be:
- Working in a public sector role
- A member of the GGP
- Working in a role where the majority the of the role meets GGP Core Skills and Specialist Skills set out in the GGP Career Framework:
- Geographic Adviser
- Geographic Analyst
- Geographic Information Technician
- Geographic Technologist
Roles can be made up of a range of skills set out in the descriptions, along with other skills.
Application
The application process is the same as all Chartered Geographers, however as well as demonstrating how you meet the Framework of Competencies you will also be asked to demonstrate how current role meets core and specialist skills set out in the AF Roles.
You will also need to demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development, meeting the skills and competencies across the Framework of Competencies, and building the skills of AF roles.
References
Two references are required, with at least one providing a review of how the AF core and specialist skills are met.
Assessment
The assessment for CGeog AF follows the same approach as all CGeog assessments. However one of the assessors must provide review and assessment for AF and explicitly accept to CGeog AF, this assessor will be a CGeog AF.
The application will also be reviewed by an assessor from external to GGP, providing external review.
Where the assessor feels that the applicant is not a suitable fit to CGeog AF they should provide an assessment for CGeog and recommend an alternative post nominal if appropriate.
When an interview is needed one of the panel will be a CGeog AF assessor.
