Dr Alanna Kamp is Senior Lecturer in Social and Cultural Geography in the School of Social Sciences at Western Sydney University. She is a researcher at the Challenging Racism Project, Young and Resilient Research Centre, and Centre for Resilient and Inclusive Societies.

An internationally recognised postcolonial-feminist geographer and cultural diversity scholar, Dr Kamp’s research critically reshapes understandings of Australian multiculturalism by centring marginalised voices and revising patriarchal and White ethno-centric historical geographies.

At the centre of her work are innovative intersectional, feminist and postcolonial methodologies. This scholarship is exemplified in her monograph Intersectional Lives (Taylor & Francis, 2022).

Dr Kamp also contributes cutting-edge scholarship that addresses racism and anti-racism in Australia, including Asian Australian experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and the intersections of racism, misinformation and trust.

She leads long-standing collaborations with Australia’s multicultural broadcaster – the Special Broadcasting Service - and has led national partnerships with the ABC, Australian Human Rights Commission and other government agencies to translate research into impactful anti-racism initiatives.

These areas of research are deeply connected to her position as a second-generation settler Australian of Asian and European heritage. She is currently conducting a passion project on 'mixed-race' young Australians experiences of racism, identity and belonging.
