Juwairiyyah Wali
Juwairiyyah Wali is a film curator and cultural worker based in Birmingham. In her curatorial practice, she seeks to serve diasporic audiences and is drawn to themes of resistance, rebellion and transgression as applied to post-colonial, feminist and queer modes of interpretation.
Juwairiyyah currently works at Flatpack as part of their programming team, and has worked with festivals such as BlackStar and Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival as part of their emerging film critics programme.
In an effort to increase access to independent, archival and experimental film in her home city (Birmingham), Juwairiyyah co-founded Radical Exhibition Collective in 2024 - a film exhibition collective dedicated to diasporic programming and platforming subaltern expression in film and moving image.
Flatpack Projects is a mobile arts organisation which exists to show amazing work, bring people together and develop new ideas. Celebrating film in all shapes and sizes, particularly where it bumps up against other artforms, Flatpack gets a kick out of transforming spaces to create unforgettable events.
Every May you can find Flatpack taking over venues across Birmingham with the "magnificently eclectic" Flatpack Festival, as well as popping up across the Midlands throughout the year with everything from family activities to al fresco horror.
