Dr Malene H. Jacobsen is a NUAcT Fellow in Geography at Newcastle University, UK. Situated within political and legal geographies, Malene’s research focuses on war, displacement and refuge across Europe and the Middle East.

Malene joined Newcastle University as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow (MSCA) in 2022 to undertake the EU-funded research project 'JustAsylum', which explored the lived realities and spaces of the Danish asylum procedure.

Before joining Newcastle, Malene completed a Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Geography, Maynooth University, Ireland.She holds a PhD from the Department of Geography, University of Kentucky (2019). Malene is the co-author of the book Migration: A Critical Introduction (2026) and her work have been published in Progress in Human Geography, Political Geography, Area, amongst others.

Malene currently serves as Associate Editor of Space and Polity and is the Vice-Chair of the Political Geography Research Group (PolGRG) of the Royal Geographical Society (2023-2026).
