Professor Susan J. Smith

Susan J. Smith, President of the British Academy, is Emerita Honorary Professor of Social and Economic Geography, and Life Fellow (formerly Head of House) at Girton College, University of Cambridge.

Her contributions to human geography address the many faces of social inequality. Her collaborative interdisciplinary research, funded by research councils, public bodies and charitable trusts, casts new light on the links between economic inequality, housing and social wellbeing in the long run.

She is a sought-after public speaker, who has published a variety of books and papers for both academic and wider audiences.
