Dr Gavin Grindon

Dr Gavin Grindon is a curator and historian of visual and material culture, whose work comprises art histories from below in which power and counterpower are exerted through art and design, cultural institutions, and policies.

His exhibition work includes Disobedient Objects (V&A, 2014); Cruel Designs (Banksy’s Dismaland, 2015), the museum at Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel (Bethlehem, 2017-present); Werbepause: The Art of Subvertising (Kunstraum Kreuzberg, 2022); and The Museum of Neoliberalism (London, 2019-present). A former member of Liberate Tate and other activist-art collectives, his writing focuses on histories and theories of activist-art, and can be found in Social Text, Art History, the Oxford Art Journal and elsewhere.
