Find out more about Geography and Environmental Science at  Kingston University London

School Visits

Kingston University offers school visits where they can deliver subject talks in either human or physical geography or GIS, or run demonstration sessions which include data collection, analysis and mapping. They also deliver careers talks and sessions on how to make a successful application to university.

Some more specific workshops that they have run include:  

  • Air quality monitoring field exercise: here they take students on a walk in the local area with air quality monitoring devices after which they download and explore the results in class.
  • Story Maps of Climate Change: here students are introduced to ESRI StoryMaps which they then use to project their concerns about climate change.
  • ArcGIS Mapping exercise: here students learn how to create an ArcGIS Online map with pop-up windows of some notable locations in a local area.

Geographical and Environmental Issues Summit

Kingston University run an annual Geographical and Environmental Issues Summit (usually in May). The theme in 2025 was Water Resilience which they ran in collaboration with Thames Water. The previous year (2024) they focussed on Climate Change and welcomed specialist speakers from their local authority, the Department of Net Zero and Kew Gardens.

Kingston University have teamed up with the Time for Geography Team in the development of resources for schools - two of which are Multiculturalism in London and Geographical Meanings and Representations.

Placements

Kingston University provides placement opportunities for young people to shadow staff members, find out what geographical research and teaching takes place and what life at university is like.  

Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

Kingston University can also provide project ideas and guidance for students who wish to take the EPQ.
