Liverpool John Moores University offers the following outreach and engagement opportunities for schools, students and teachers:
Ambassadors programme
LJMU have established a collaborative Student STEM Ambassador scheme, providing undergraduate and postgraduate students with opportunities to share their knowledge and experiences to inspire young people to pursue higher education. Ambassadors play a pivotal role in a variety of outreach activities, including school visits, taster days, and widening participation programmes.
Events and lectures
LJMU offer engaging, tailor-made talks and workshops for GCSE and A-level groups interested in studying Geography or Environmental Sciences. These can be delivered in your school or college, or as part of a campus visit to experience university life first-hand. Topics include Careers in Geography, Extreme Impacts in the UK, and Coastal Management Strategies. If your students are curious about other areas, they are always happy to adapt sessions to suit their interests, just get in touch.
Visits to and from schools
LJMU are keen to engage with schools throughout the year. They offer both on-campus visits to school groups and outreach talks delivered directly in schools. Depending on your needs, these can be focused on particular geographical topics, or general sessions on university or careers in Geography and Environmental Science.
They also run biannual Taster Days designed for both Year 9 and Year 12, designed to showcase the breadth of subjects within their programme while providing students with a meaningful insight into university life. If you are interested please contact outreach lead Dr Monica McCard (M.M.McCard@ljmu.ac.uk).
Open days
LJMU Undergraduate Open Days and Offer Holder Days give you the chance to experience university life first-hand, explore their campus, discover everything they have to offer, meet their academics, and chat with current students about their experiences.
Find out more about Open Day dates and other opportunities to visit on the LJMU website.
Teacher CPD and resources
LJMU offer a 2-day CPD training day for teachers in June on GIS.
