About Emma
Emma's overriding aim is to use her creativity to inspire other educational professionals, whether they be PGCE/BEd students, ECTs, classroom teachers, Subject Leaders, Key Stage Coordinators, Senior Leaders, Headteachers or Learning and Community Engagement Officers within the heritage sector. It is hoped that they, in turn, will adopt, adapt and develop new teaching activities and provide stimulating learning experiences for all the youngsters that they come into contact with.
Fifteen years teaching many subjects across a broad age range in a variety of schools has certainly proved invaluable for Emma's current role as a freelance author and consultant and private tutor.
In the past, Emma has been based in mainstream, independent, selective and comprehensive schools. Whilst her PGCE is at secondary level, with her specialism identified as geography and religious studies as a second subject, she has taught from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5. Although much of her time has been dedicated to the teaching and learning of geography, she has also contributed to the delivery of many other subjects, largely across the humanities, as well as computing, PSHE/citizenship and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). As would be expected from her years in the profession, she has held numerous roles of responsibility alongside her teaching commitments, related to either the taught or extended curriculum. Involvement with staff and pupils at primary level has usually concentrated upon the promotion of a connected, creative curriculum, geography, global learning, transition, geographical skills and fieldwork or ‘taking learning beyond the classroom’.
For the past fourteen years, Emma has worked in a freelance capacity, undertaking a vast array of authoring and consultancy tasks. Much of what Emma does has a county or south west focus, but she is willing to work further a field if needed
