What can Richard offer to schools?

Resources and unit construction

Richard specialises in training educators and geography departments to create their own contemporary, engaging geography resources in a sustainable manner. Rather than simply providing ready-made materials, his approach focuses on building departmental capacity and developing skills that will benefit schools long-term.

Key training areas include:

  • Unit planning and curriculum design workshops - training teams to develop their own schemes of work, from individual lessons to complete two-year courses, tailored to their specific school context and student needs while ensuring strategic alignment with IB assessment criteria.
  • Contemporary case study development techniques - equipping educators with strategies and frameworks to identify, research, and integrate current global issues and events into their teaching in ways that support assessment objectives.
  • Internal Assessment guidance and support - developing departmental expertise in guiding students through the IA process, with approaches adapted to the school's specific context and assessment requirements.
  • Sustainable resource development strategies - establishing systems and processes that enable ongoing creation and adaptation of high-quality materials that maintain both student engagement and assessment focus.

Richard's training approach ensures that geography departments develop the skills and confidence to continuously create and adapt resources that make geographical concepts accessible and compelling for their students.

Digital Technology Integration in Geography Teaching

Richard supports staff and schools in developing confident, meaningful use of digital technologies that enhance geographical learning. His approach goes beyond simple tool training to focus on building whole-school digital capacity and helping educators integrate technology purposefully into their practice.

Key training areas include:

  • Spatial analysis integration - training educators to support students with spatial analysis tools for Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, and World Studies Extended Essays, building both teacher confidence and student geographical skills.
  • Generative AI for education content creators - equipping teaching staff with practical strategies for using AI tools to enhance resource creation, lesson planning, and assessment design while maintaining pedagogical integrity.
  • Whole-school AI integration strategies - developing comprehensive approaches that support not just teaching staff, but entire school communities in using AI positively and effectively across different contexts.
  • Meaningful technology integration frameworks - training teams to select and implement digital tools that genuinely enhance geographical understanding rather than simply adding technology for its own sake
  • Digital pedagogy development - building sustainable approaches to integrating various technologies into geography teaching that support long-term departmental growth and student engagement.

Richard's training ensures that schools develop the confidence and expertise to continuously adapt and integrate emerging technologies in ways that genuinely enhance geographical education.

Format of sessions

Richard is experienced in delivering both online and in-person professional development sessions and is happy to offer both formats depending on school needs and scheduling.

Online sessions

Richard has extensive experience leading online webinars and virtual training sessions, which can be arranged more flexibly around his full-time teaching commitments. These sessions work effectively for both individual schools and groups of educators across different time zones.

In-person sessions

Richard has delivered face-to-face CPD sessions globally, including across Europe, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. Due to his full-time teaching role, in-person sessions require advance planning and coordination. Travel expenses would need to be covered for face-to-face sessions.

Richard's preference is for online delivery where possible, as this allows for more flexible scheduling and broader accessibility, though he recognises that some training formats benefit from in-person interaction and is happy to accommodate this where practical.

Pricing

Richard charges for his professional development sessions, with fees determined by the method of delivery and the amount of preparation required. Online sessions are typically more cost-effective due to reduced time commitments and no travel requirements, while in-person sessions require additional considerations for travel time and logistics.

Please contact Richard directly to discuss your specific requirements and receive a tailored quote based on your school's needs and preferred delivery format. Travel expenses are additional for in-person sessions and would need to be covered separately.
