Dr Katy Roucoux talks about her work on Peru’s peatlands, in lowland Amazonia. These steaming swamps share similar characteristics to UK bogs with low nutrient levels, a high water table, and high acidity, but are densely forested.

The research described in this podcast is being carried out by a consortium of scientists and social scientists from the Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana (IIAP) and the universities of St Andrews, Leeds and Edinburgh. Thanks especially to colleagues at IIAP without whom this research would not be possible.
