This National Lottery Open Week we’re saying #Thankstoyou and unlocking our archives with a free online talk exploring the career of Antarctic photographer Frank Hurley.

Join Alasdair MacLeod, Head of Enterprise and Resources at the Society for an illustrated talk combining photography and film to consider the early influences on Frank Hurley, the photographer and filmmaker commissioned by Ernest Shackleton to document his attempt to be the first to cross the continent of Antarctica, known as the "Warrior with a Camera".

Alasdair will chart his work in Australia and his first foray south to the Antarctic with the Professor Douglas Mawson, before examining the extraordinary legacy of his images taken during the Endurance expedition and which lie at the heart of the Society’s exhibition Shackleton’s legacy and the power of early Antarctic photography.
