Join us for an evening’s entertainment, a special one-off theatrical performance of Malcolm Rennie’s outstanding one-man show, Shackleton’s Carpenter. The performance will take place on stage in the Society’s Ondaatje Lecture Theatre with the show beginning at 7.00pm.

Shackleton's Endurance sank in Antarctica, leaving the 28 crew stranded. McNish, brilliant carpenter and shipwright, defied Shackleton, but his skills played an absolutely vital role in saving the entire crew. For all his bravery and ingenuity, McNish was one of the very few who were never awarded the Polar Medal. Now, alone and destitute, one still night on the dockside, he challenges him one last time. How did he antagonise the hero of Antarctica?  How does he come to terms with it?

Malcolm Rennie has appeared in over 20 West End shows including Catch my Soul, She Stoops to Conquer, The Good Companions, Salad Days, The Price, The Cabinet Minister, Lady Windermere's Fan, The Chiltern Hundreds, Hard Times and many more.

If you have tickets for the Shackleton conference, you do not need to book for the Friday evening show as your conference ticket allows entry to this.
