Guardians of the forest: protecting gorillas in a changing Africa - Jillian Miller

Join Jillian Miller for an illustrated talk on the future of gorilla conservation in a rapidly changing Africa.

Drawing on more than three decades of experience, Jillian will explore the challenges facing gorillas and the communities who live alongside them, from habitat loss and pressure on rainforest resources to the practical realities of conservation work in remote and often fragile landscapes.

She will also show how community-led approaches, including sustainable livelihoods, education, ranger support and long-term local partnerships, can help protect both endangered gorillas and the forests they depend on.

This event offers a rare insight into the people, places and fieldwork behind gorilla conservation, and into the hopeful, complex work of safeguarding one of Africa’s most iconic species for future generations.

About the speaker

Jillian Miller is the Executive Director of The Gorilla Organization, which works to protect gorillas in their natural habitat through community-led conservation. She has led the organisation since 1992 and is the founder of its award-winning programme supporting both gorilla protection and the communities who live alongside them.

Her work has taken her to some of Africa’s most important and challenging conservation landscapes, where long-term partnerships, sustainable livelihoods and local knowledge are central to securing a future for gorillas.

• Tickets are £8, and free for Society members. Students can book free tickets by entering the code Student at checkout. Please book by midday on 15 October.
• If there are spaces available, tickets can be purchased on the door for £10 (cash only).
• We do not issue tickets (electronic or physical) for this event. Instead your name will be on a list at the door.
