
Key dates and deadlines
The 2026 conference will take place at the Society in London and Imperial College London, and online, from Wednesday 2 to Friday 4 September 2026. Opening events take place on Tuesday 1 September.
Please note that all dates are provisional and may be subject to small changes (except the dates of the conference itself).

November 2025 to 6 March 2026
Call for Sessions, papers and posters open.
- Session organisers advertise Calls for Papers to their sessions
- Prospective delegates submit paper proposals to either:
- Organised sessions, or
- 'Open' call, (sessions convened by the RGS-IBG conference planning committee)
6 March 2026
Deadline for programme submissions.
All programme submissions must be received through the online portal by Friday 6 March 2026.
Please note that the Calls for Papers for 'organised' sessions will have various submission deadlines, before this main conference submission deadline.
April 2026
Registration opens.
End of April 2026
Conference organisers confirm acceptance of submissions.
Conference organisers will formally confirm acceptance of sessions, papers and posters for the conference. Timetabling the programme begins.
Delegates may request letters of acceptance to make funding applications, and letters of invitation for visa applications.
Mid-May 2026
Provisional conference programme available.
Session organisers and presenting authors are invited to make corrections and request final changes to titles and abstracts.
Friday 19 June 2026
Deadline for early-bird (reduced rate) registration.
Programme contributors (session chairs, paper and poster presenters, discussants, and panel contributors) must register by this deadline.
Mid July 2026
Final conference programme announced.
Final conference programme published on the conference website. Changes may be made to the online programme at any time up to and during the conference.
